4 Reasons Why Branding Is Not A Waste of Money

By Jacqui Antonetti, Instant Imprints

Talking with a business owner few days ago about some recommended marketing actions, he said that he doesn’t believe in branding-focused marketing; that he cares only about marketing that gives him a clear and tangible ROI.

Although I don’t agree, I do understand and respect his point, so I didn’t make an argument out of our conversation. However, it got me thinking, and occurred to me that it would be pertinent to explain why branding is still important.

1. Branding Enhances Recognition

One of major components of a brand is the logo and even other visual elements like icons. Not sure about this? Check your own reaction when you see the check mark that represents Nike, for example. Do you or do you not link the visual element to the brand almost immediately? Having said that, my next question is how do you expect people to buy from you if they are not capable of identifying who you are? If branding wasn’t important, how come the big brands out there spend thousands, even millions of dollars in advertising not a specific product or service, but their brand?

2. Your Brand Is Tied to Trustworthiness

The way you present and use your brand has a direct impact on your credibility. If you have a professional appearance the probabilities of people trusting your business are higher. This is one of the main reasons why you want to make sure that your brand projects professionalism, as well as your business’ values. Once you know that your logo and other visual elements in your brand accomplish this, then you need to make sure that your potential customers/clients see you. Let’s say that this is the first step to open the doors to your customers’ trust.

3. Your Brand Builds Financial Value

Your brand is not just a name. Your brand involves reputation, values, and history. All of these add (or decrease) the financial value of your company. A strong brand tends to guarantee future business, and “strong” in branding usually has a lot to do with your brand recognition.

4. Branding Does Generate New Customers

Contrary to what some people may think, branding does open the door to new businesses. How? Through referrals for example. Imagine that one of your customers had a great buying experience with you and wants to refer you to a friend or business colleague, and it turns out that he can’t remember your brand. What would that mean for your business? Just food for thought.
